Take off, fly, land, take off, ...
Well, this is about my maiden flight abroad.
both the flights (Chennai to Frankfurt, Frankfurt to Newark) were pretty good, except for the food. and some constricted leg space.
well, lufthansa economy class is not among the best in the world.
at lufthansa, seems like only the liquor is good. they had all brands, all types. but i took some wine only(both red & white. :)
it was Germany, the first foreign land i landed! reminded me of all the Second World War stories/novels/movies i've read/seen.
Frankfurt's a pretty large & picturesque (spelt wrong?) airport.
but can't get out of the airport. so me (along with two other blokes - they were pretty much interested in looking at the shops inside) tried to scale all ends of the airport desperately wanting to see whats my favorite continent's like.
and all i could manage to see was distant mountains, the sky & a post office! :( i wanted more. i wished there was some delay in the connecting flight so that they would put me up in some hotel outside the airport (like dad had been sometime back). but unfortunately that didn't happen. :(
as the day came to life (i landed at 7:15 am. it had been dark then), the morning sun came out bright & shining. clear blue sky. but chill cold weather.
the northern part of the northen hemisphere looks pretty good.
the Frankfurt to Newark flight was during the day. so this time, my disappointment at the airport was reduced a little by the view i saw when i took off from the airport. i cud see some roads cutting across lush green meadows. Germany!!!
but that was only for a minute or two. the flight went above clouds after that.
due to north atlantic winds, the pilots took a circuitious route. we flew over Iceland, Greenland, the north Atlantic and then down south to Newark via Canada. we landed at the Newark airport at 4:30 pm EST. it was already dark like India 6:30 pm.
The Immigration was pretty easy. the lady at the counter asked if i thought i'd enjoy my stay at the U.S. i said "ya, sure!".
the pre-arranged cab (my company does take care of its employees well!) from airport to the place i was to stay, was pretty good. Pakistani cab driver. chatty fellow. but guy couldn't understand English that much.
the roads are the first thing that catches one's eyes here. these guys have roads all over the place. there are atleast 4 lanes. mostly they have 6 to 8 lanes. amazing!
